About Pacific Rim HVN

What is the Pacific Rim Hearing Voices Network?

The Pacific Rim Hearing Voices Network is a collective of resources, groups and trainings for people in the Pacific Rim Region who experience voices, visions or other unusual or extreme energies, sensations and states of consciousness.  Our goal is to encourage the creation of HVN groups in this region through outreach, support, presentations, resources and trainings.  The Hearing Voices Network is about so much more than hearing voices -- it's an attitude, a way of being.  In HVN we make zero assumption of illness, believe in self determination, welcome all attitudes and believe we all have the right to change our minds at any time.  We have conducted trainings for facilitators in Washington State, Oregon, Hawaii and Guam.

What do we do?

We advocate for greater awareness of the HVN philosophy by providing engaging and informative presentations to voice hearers, their families and supporters, mental health professionals and allies in the community.  We provide resources and information to support the creation and facilitation of new HVN groups in the community as well as in more restricted settings like psychiatric hospitals and prisons.  We support facilitators with their questions and needs around their groups.  And finally, we provide facilitation trainings where we provide the tools and knowledge necessary to start, support, and facilitate HVN groups.

Our trainings are informative for group facilitators but are also popular with people who hear voices or have other unusual/extreme experiences.  Facilitation trainings are also well-received by mental health professionals and family members.  We promote a philosophy that does not assume illness and instead, encourages people to explore whatever framework that feels right to them at any time.  We discuss coping and engagement strategies, facilitation skills, coming off psychiatric drugs, ways to think about reality and more.

We are part of a worldwide movement, first founded on the work of voice hearer Patsy Hage, Dutch social psychiatrist Dr. Marius Romme, and his wife/research partner Dr. Sandra Escher.
